Woman in her 60s has purse stolen while shopping in Limerick

A WOMAN in her 60s had her purse stolen from her handbag while shopping in Limerick.

On Sunday, May 19 at 11:15am the woman was pushing her trolley around a supermarket food section. She had placed her handbag on the trolley.

After a time she noticed that her handbag was lying open and when she checked she realised that her purse was gone.

She immediately contacted her bank because her bankcards were in her purse along with a sum of cash. The bank could inform her that a transaction of over €200 had already happened.

Sergeant Ber Leetch, crime prevention officer at Henry Street garda station said: “These criminals look like you and I and are very quick.

“Ladies, wear a cross body bag if you must bring a bag or just keep your phone and bankcard in a zipped pocket on your person.

“A handbag just attracts the eye of a criminal, especially if it unattended, even for a few seconds, on your shopping trolley.”
