Woman sexually attacked near cricket club as investigation underway

Police are investigating after a woman was sexually attacked in Castleford.

The attack happened near to Townville Cricket Club in the early hours of Sunday morning (June, 2). A large cordon was put in place, blocking off the club in Poplar Avenue, in the Airedale area.




Residents woke up on Sunday morning to see a large police presence in the area as cordons were erected to restrict access to the scene.

Enquiries are ongoing and police are urging anybody with information to come forward. A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “Police received an allegation of a sexual assault on a woman in Castleford in the early hours of Sunday, 2 June.

“The investigation is in its early stages with significant enquiries being carried out to understand the circumstances of what has taken place.
