York City sign midfielder Ricky Aguiar from Swindon Town | York City Football Club

York City are delighted to reveal the signing of midfielder Ricky Aguiar on a permanent transfer from EFL League Two side Swindon Town, for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old arrives at the LNER Community Stadium following a near three-year spell down in Wiltshire.

Aguiar broke through into senior football down on the south coast with Worthing under manager Adam Hinshelwood.

Between 2018-21, the midfielder turned out over 90 times for Worthing and ended his first season as Managers’ and Players’ Player of the Year, retaining the former in 2019/20. Across the 95 appearances, he netted 15 goals.

Swindon Town snapped up the midfielder following a successful number of years at Worthing in 2021.

In his maiden Football League season, Aguiar featured 19 times and scored twice. He also featured in the National League South for Chippenham that season on loan, featuring in 14 games and scoring 7.

Across the 2022/23 season, another 13 appearances in the Football League were added to Aguiar’s tally. The midfielder also briefly spent time on loan in the National League with Torquay.

Last season, Aguiar began the season by securing a season-long loan back at Worthing. 30 appearances and 11 goals later, Swindon activated a clause to recall the midfielder in January 2024.

He turned out a further nine times for Swindon between then and the end of the 2023/24 season.

Welcome to the Minstermen, Ricky!

Subject to league and FA approval.
